The Montgomery Homeownership Program gives eligible homebuyers up to a $40,000, interest-free loan to pay for the down payment or closing costs on a home that costs up to $429,000 in the county—or in some more expensive county home markets—up to $525,000.
The county has allocated $1 million for the program. One- or two-member households can qualify for a loan if their annual income is less than $130,320 while three- or more member households can qualify with an income less than $152,040.
This financial incentive is provided by Montgomery County to help working families and first time home buyers achieve affordable homeownership in the County.
To take advantage of this program, the following steps need to be taken:
Talk to a Lender – Your lender can help you confirm your eligibility for the Montgomery Homeownership Program and Maryland Mortgage Program and will make sure you meet all the requirements.
Check Your Eligibility to see whether you can apply for a Maryland Mortgage Program loan. Note that being eligible to apply does not guarantee approval, and lenders will take into account things like your income, credit history and employment situation when considering your application.
Complete a Homebuyer Education Class – This class helps you prepare to make the right decisions when purchasing your home.
